The basics

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth, made to fit comfortably in your mouth and look as natural as possible. At Face Dental, we offer both full and partial dentures, tailored to each patient individually.

A full denture replaces an entire arch of missing teeth and rests on the gum. A partial denture fills the gaps left by one or more missing teeth and clips onto the remaining teeth for support. Both types are made to measure, so they fit your mouth specifically rather than being an off-the-shelf solution.

A well-made denture should feel secure, look natural, and give you back the confidence to eat, speak, and smile without thinking twice.

Getting dentures takes a series of appointments over a few weeks. We take detailed impressions and measurements to ensure the fit is as precise as possible. Once fitted, we will review them with you and make any adjustments needed until you are completely comfortable.

Our dentures

Types of denture we provide

We offer both full and partial dentures in acrylic and metal. The right type depends on how many teeth are missing, the condition of your remaining teeth, and what suits your lifestyle best.

Full metal denture 01

Full metal denture

A complete set of teeth supported by a metal framework. Metal dentures tend to be slimmer and more rigid than acrylic, which many patients find more comfortable to wear over time.

Full acrylic denture 02

Full acrylic denture

A complete replacement for all upper or lower teeth, made from a gum-coloured acrylic base. The most common full denture type, and easy to adjust or reline as your mouth changes over time.

Partial metal denture 03

Partial metal denture

A metal framework with replacement teeth that clips securely onto your remaining natural teeth. Precise, strong, and considerably thinner than an acrylic partial, making it easier to adapt to.

Partial acrylic denture 04

Partial acrylic denture

Fills the gaps left by one or more missing teeth using an acrylic base that rests on the gum and clips onto adjacent teeth. A straightforward and cost-effective option for partial tooth loss.

01

Consultation and assessment

Consultation and assessment

We examine your mouth, assess the condition of any remaining teeth and gums, and discuss which type of denture is most suitable for you. We will talk through the full process so you know exactly what to expect at each stage.

Impressions and measurements

Impressions and measurements

We take detailed impressions of your mouth and record how your jaws relate to each other. These are sent to our dental laboratory so your denture can be made to fit your mouth precisely. We also note your preferences for tooth shape and shade at this stage.

Try-in appointment

Try-in appointment

Before the denture is finished, we fit a wax trial version so you can see how the teeth look and check the fit and bite. This is your opportunity to request any changes to the appearance or shape before the final denture is made. Most patients find this a reassuring step.

Final fitting and aftercare

Final fitting

We fit your finished denture and check the fit, bite, and appearance carefully. Any minor adjustments are made on the day. We will give you full aftercare instructions, including how to clean your denture and what to expect in the first few weeks as you adapt to wearing it.

Know the difference

Dentures vs implant-retained dentures

Both replace a full arch of missing teeth. The difference is in how they stay in place, and what that means for comfort, confidence, and everyday life.

Yes. Modern dentures are made to closely match the appearance of natural teeth, with the shade, shape, and size selected to suit your face. Because yours are made to measure rather than off the shelf, the result is far more natural-looking than people often expect.

Most patients adapt within a few weeks. Speaking and eating may feel a little different at first, and you may produce more saliva than usual in the early days. This is all completely normal. We will review your dentures after fitting and make any adjustments needed to help you settle in as quickly as possible.

Yes, though it helps to start with softer foods and build up gradually as you get used to them. Most people find they can eat a wide range of foods comfortably once they have adapted. Very hard or particularly sticky foods are best avoided regardless. We will give you full guidance at your fitting appointment.

Dentures should be removed and cleaned after eating where possible, and thoroughly cleaned at least once a day using a soft brush and denture cleaner rather than regular toothpaste. At night, remove them and soak them in a denture cleaning solution or cold water to help them keep their shape. We will walk you through the full routine at your appointment.

With proper care, dentures typically last between five and ten years. Over time, the fit can change as your gums and jaw bone alter slightly in shape. If your denture starts to feel loose or uncomfortable, it may need relining or replacing rather than tolerating. We check your dentures at every routine appointment.

The cost depends on the type of denture, the materials used, and whether you need a full or partial denture. We will give you a full, transparent quote at your consultation before any treatment begins. If you have questions about fees or payment options, our team is happy to help.
