Implant-retained Dentures Coventry
Implant-retained dentures are held securely in place by implants in the jaw, giving you a far more stable and confident result than a conventional denture. They look natural, feel secure, and stay put when you eat, speak, and smile.

What are implant-retained dentures?
Implant-retained dentures are a full replacement for missing teeth, held firmly in place by implants placed into the jaw bone. Unlike conventional dentures, they do not rely on suction or adhesive — they snap securely onto the implants and stay there.
Two to four small titanium implants are placed into the jaw under local anaesthetic. Once they have integrated with the bone, a custom-made denture is attached on top using special connectors. The denture can be removed for cleaning but is held firmly enough during the day that most patients forget they are wearing one.
For patients who have struggled with a loose or uncomfortable denture, implant retention is often life-changing.
The implants also help preserve the jaw bone over time, which conventional dentures do not. This means your facial structure is better maintained in the long term, and the fit of the denture stays more consistent as the years go on.
Are implant-retained dentures right for you?
Implant-retained dentures are suitable for most healthy adults with significant tooth loss. Here are the key signs that you may be a good candidate.
01
Struggling with a loose denture
If your current denture moves when you eat or speak, or requires adhesive to stay in place, implant retention can give you back the stability and confidence you have been missing.
Missing all or most teeth in an arch
Implant-retained dentures are designed for patients who have lost a full arch of teeth, or where the remaining teeth are beyond saving. They replace everything in one solution.
03
In good general health
Placing implants is a minor surgical procedure, so patients need to be in reasonable general health. Most common conditions are not a barrier, and we will assess this fully at your consultation.
Sufficient jaw bone present
Implants need enough bone to anchor into. Some bone loss is common after tooth loss, but many patients still have enough. Where bone is limited, grafting may be an option we can discuss.
05
A non-smoker, or able to stop
Smoking significantly affects how well implants integrate with the bone. We ask patients to stop smoking before and during the healing period to give the implants the best chance of success.

Your implant-retained denture treatment from start to finish
Consultation and planning
We examine your mouth, take X-rays, and assess the condition of your jaw bone to confirm whether implants are suitable. We discuss the full treatment process, expected timescales, and costs, so you have a clear picture before any decisions are made.
~45 minutesImplant placement
Under local anaesthetic, two to four small titanium implants are placed into the jaw bone. The procedure is straightforward and most patients find it more comfortable than they expected. The implants are then left to integrate with the bone over the coming months.
~60 minutesHealing and impressions
Once the implants have integrated — typically over three to six months — we take detailed impressions and measurements to design your custom denture. We record your tooth shade and shape preferences at this stage so the final result looks completely natural.
~30 minutesFinal fitting and aftercare
Your finished denture is attached to the implants and checked carefully for fit, bite, and appearance. We make any adjustments needed on the day, then walk you through how to remove, clean, and care for your new denture so it stays in great condition long term.
~30 minutesImplant-retained dentures vs All-on-X
Both use implants to restore a full arch of teeth. The key difference is whether the result is removable or permanently fixed, and what that means for your lifestyle and budget.
Implant-retained dentures
A custom denture that clips securely onto two to four implants. Removable for cleaning, but held firmly enough during the day that most patients forget they are wearing one.
All-on-X
A full arch of teeth permanently fixed to four to six implants. The closest result to natural teeth — nothing to remove, nothing to soak, and no movement whatsoever.

No. The implants are placed under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure. Most patients find it more straightforward than they expected. Some mild soreness and swelling in the days afterwards is normal and settles quickly. We will advise you on pain relief and aftercare before you leave.
The full process typically takes between three and six months. Most of this time is the healing period after implant placement, during which the implants integrate with the jaw bone. The actual appointments themselves are relatively short. We will give you a clear timeline at your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
Yes. The denture clips firmly onto the implants and stays in place throughout the day. You can eat, speak, and laugh without worrying about movement. Most patients adapt very quickly and find that within a few weeks they forget they are wearing a denture at all. The difference compared to a conventional denture is significant.
The denture is removed for cleaning, just like a conventional denture. You clean it with a soft brush and denture cleaner, and soak it overnight. The implant attachments in your mouth are cleaned around carefully with a small brush. We will walk you through the full cleaning routine at your fitting appointment so you feel confident maintaining everything correctly.
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, implants can last a lifetime. The denture itself will need replacing over time, typically every eight to twelve years, as it naturally wears. The small attachment components may need servicing periodically too. We monitor everything at your routine appointments and let you know well in advance if anything needs attention.
The cost depends on the number of implants needed, the complexity of your case, and whether any preparatory work such as extractions or bone grafting is required. We will give you a full, itemised quote at your consultation before any treatment begins. If you have questions about fees or payment options, our team is happy to talk it through with you.
