What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes excessive sweating beyond what the body needs to regulate temperature. It affects around 1 in 50 people and can have a significant impact on everyday life, but it is very effectively treated.
For most people, sweating is triggered by heat or exercise. With hyperhidrosis, the sweat glands are overactive regardless of temperature or activity, meaning excessive sweating can happen at any time, without warning. It most commonly affects the underarms, hands, feet, and face.
The condition is not dangerous, but it can be distressing. Many people find it affects their choice of clothing, their confidence in social and professional situations, and their general quality of life. It is far more common than most people realise, and you do not need to simply put up with it.
A short, straightforward treatment can reduce sweating by up to 90%, and the results last for months.
At Face Dental, Dr Maryam uses a clinically proven injection treatment that temporarily blocks the nerve signals responsible for activating the sweat glands in the treated area. It is quick, well tolerated, and requires no downtime. Results typically last between four and six months, after which the treatment can simply be repeated.
Where can hyperhidrosis be treated?
Injection treatment can significantly reduce excessive sweating in several areas of the body — safely and effectively.
01
Underarms
The most common area treated. Injections into the underarm skin block the signals that trigger sweat production, providing significant and long-lasting relief from excessive underarm sweating.
02
Hands
Sweaty palms can make everyday interactions — handshakes, touchscreens, writing — uncomfortable and embarrassing. Treatment can dramatically reduce palm sweating and restore confidence.
03
Feet
Excessive sweating of the feet can cause discomfort, odour, and skin problems. Injections to the soles of the feet can bring significant relief for patients who have struggled with this for years.
04
Face & scalp
Facial sweating and a sweaty scalp can be particularly distressing. Carefully placed injections across the forehead, temples, or scalp can reduce sweating in these areas considerably.

Your hyperhidrosis appointment from start to finish
Consultation
We begin by understanding how hyperhidrosis affects your daily life and which areas are most problematic. Dr Maryam will assess the area, confirm that injection treatment is appropriate for you, and explain clearly what to expect — including how many injections are likely to be needed and what results are realistic.
~30 minutesTreatment
A series of small injections are placed just beneath the skin across the treatment area. A fine needle is used and the process is generally well tolerated. For the underarms, most people find it straightforward. For the hands and feet, a topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand to improve comfort. The whole treatment typically takes around 30 minutes.
~30 minutesAftercare
There is no downtime. You can return to normal activities straight away. Some mild tenderness or small bumps at the injection sites are common and settle quickly. We advise avoiding intense exercise for 24 hours after treatment. Sweating will begin to reduce gradually over the first one to two weeks as the product takes full effect.
1–2 weeks to full effectTwo-week review
We invite you back two weeks after treatment to check how you are getting on. This is a chance to assess how well the treatment has worked, answer any questions, and make any small top-up adjustments if needed. Most patients notice a dramatic reduction in sweating by this point and leave feeling genuinely relieved.
